Chapman's Rhododendrons Are Blooming!
March 29 9:00 - 12:00 EDT
Don't forget to mark your calendars for Saturday March 29 to see one of the Preserves' outstanding botanical jewels: Chapman's Rhododendrons.
You won't want to miss seeing the spectacular blossoms of the Chapman's Rhododendrons that are found at the Preserves. Found in only a very few counties in Florida, the federally endangered Chapman's Rhododendrons are just one of the many special plants found within the Preserves.
The Preserves staff will transport participants in trucks to the Rhododendron site. The tour should last two or three hours.
Please meet at the Preserves Center at 9:00 EDT. Since you will be riding in open vehicles, be sure to wear headgear to protect you from the sun.
For complete details, please call (850)229-1787.

A Message from the Manager
Spring Breakers Help at The Preserves
Many thanks to the students from the University of Georgia at Athens! These students volunteered to help with several projects at the Preserves during their spring break vacation.
This spring breaker group worked hard on several projects. They removed the cyclone fence along the road at the Deal track, worked on a project restoring groundcover (by planting wiregrass plugs) to areas within the preserve that had the groundcover cleared, and did a shoreline cleanup along the bay at the Deal Tract.
This year's group had some graduate students, including several from India, and more guys than years past, making this a particularly diverse and interesting group of students.
The Friends of St Joseph Bay Preserves sponsored four dinners for the group and members of our staff (Roy Ogles, Neil Jones) and Friends members (Ann Anderson and Joy Peterson) prepared the meals.
The students and I really appreciate the Friends' support of the alternative spring breakers who do such great work for us. Each of the fifteen students became student members of our friends group. They worked hard and had a great time!
