The Story of
the St. Joseph
Bay Preserves In 1969 the St. Joseph Bay Aquatic Preserve
was established to protect the important natural resources of St. Joseph Bay.
Recognizing the importance of the protection of surrounding uplands to the
preservation of the outstanding water quality and natural resources of the
bay, the St. Joseph Bay State Buffer Preserve was created in 1995 with an
initial 702 acres. Preserve acreage currently (9/03) totals 5,018 acres.
Together, these preserves help protect a regionally significant natural area
with outstanding ecological, economic and historical/cultural values. You could make a
difference. Helping with a FUN
fundraiser….a “Low Country” boil at the preserve center …..or assisting
in the preservation of rare and endangered plants on the buffer preserve. |
